Visitor Visa
- To apply for a Canada Visitor Visa, there are some basic requirements to be met such as having a valid travel document, being in good health, having no criminal or immigration-related convictions.
- Convincing an immigration officer that you have ties that will take you back to your home country. You also need to collect and submit the documents required, such as your passport, proof of funds, invitation letter (if applicable), etc.
- Depending on your country of origin, you may need a Canada visitor visa or an Electronic Travel Authorization (eTA).
Requirements
Passport
You must have a valid travel document, like a passport
Health
You must be in good health and may need to undergo a medical exam
Criminal record
You must have no criminal or immigration-related convictions and will be scrutinised for inadmissibility rules and regulations as per IRPA/IRPR of Canada
Ties to home country
You must convince an immigration officer that you have ties—such as a job, home, financial assets or family—that will take you back to your home country
Funds
You must have enough funds to support your stay in Canada
Travel itinerary
You must provide the travel itinerary along with return and arrival flight tickets
Invitation letter
You may need an invitation letter from someone who lives in Canada if you are visiting them
Process
Application form
You need to fill out an application form (IMM5257) online , and other supplementary forms as per country specific guidelines.
Documents
You need to collect and submit the documents required, such as your passport, proof of funds, invitation letter (if applicable), etc.
Biometrics
You may need to give your biometrics (fingerprints and photo) if it’s the first time you apply
Processing time
The processing time varies depending on your country of origin. It can range from 15 days to 6 weeks or more
Passport stamping
If your application is approved, you need to send your passport for stamping. If you applied online, you will get an email with instructions. If you applied on paper, you will get a letter with instructions.
Funds requirement
- The amount of funds you need to show for a Canada visitor visa depends on your length of stay, your travel itinerary, and your country of origin.
- In general, an individual foreign national may need to provide “proof of funds”. You can show proof of funds by providing bank statements, pay stubs, tax returns, etc.
- You should plan to bring enough CAD $ for a 30-day tourist visit, that may be adequate in terms of the Canadian visa application process (you may want to bring more money, depending on what you want to do in Canada)

The processing time varies by country and can be checked on https://www.canada.ca/en/immigration-refugees-citizenship/services/visit-canada/about-visitor-visa.html. You may also have to pay miscellaneous fees such as biometrics fee, service fee, courier fee etc.
